Conversion of PIO Cards to OCI Cards
PIO card holders may kindly note that the deadline for conversion of PIO Cards into OCI cards is 31st December 2017 with no extra charge except postage (if needed) and ICWF fees of R$ 10/-.
These cards need to be converted into OCI cards as PIO card scheme is no longer in existence. PIO cardholders are deemed to be OCI cardholders and the conversion process to OCI card would not require any extra scrutiny or additional documentation except for the requirement of copies of the foreign passport and the existing PIO card. PIO card to OCI card conversion does not entail the same procedure as followed in issuance of a fresh OCI card to those who never held a PIO card.
Benefit of holding OCI cards:
(i) Multiple entry, multi-purpose lifelong visa to visit India;
(ii) Exemption from reporting to Police authorities for any length of stay in India; and
(iii) Parity with NRIs in financial, economic and educational fields except in the acquisition of agricultural or plantation properties.
Please note: it is mandatory to replace PIO cards with OCI cards to avail the above mentioned benefits.
