Mr. Sunil Lal joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1982. He worked in various capacities, in Indian Missions in Havana, Berlin, Ankara and Washington. In the Ministry of External Affairs headquarters, Mr. Lal worked in External Publicity, UN and Public Diplomacy Divisions. He was also the Chief of Protocol from 2007 to 2011.He was on deputation to Defense Staff College, Wellington (1988-89); Georgetown University (1999-00) and as Joint Secretary in the National Security Council Secretariat (2004-06). His last assignment was as Indian Ambassador to Spain. He assumed charge as India’s Ambassador to Brazil on September 30th, 2014.
Mr. Lal holds a Post-Graduation Degree in International Relations and M. Phil. in Diplomacy. He is fluent in English and Spanish and also has a basic knowledge of German.
Mr. Sunil Lal is married to Mrs. Gitanjali Lal and has a son and a daughter.
